Video blogging is something that has interested me for ages. I really think it is a great medium for promoting your product or service and also help to find out a bit more about you as a person.

Check out below my first attempt at this. It is just a quick introduction conjured up in my office. Would love to hear feedback!

PAH Accounting are really suffering from World Cup Fever!

Every four years it comes along and if we do well can really lift the spirits of the nation. It never ceases to amaze me how such a positive buzz comes around at this time, whether you follow football or not. It was certainly noticeable a couple of years ago when England failed to qualify for the European Championships how the tournament was not well supported (in this country anyway!) and the summer was boring.

We’ve got a new government and an upcoming budget, but hey, if England do well, who is going to care. I’ll still be live blogging etc. on June 22nd by the way! It is interesting that David Cameron has agreed to have the England flag arisen whilst we are still in the tournament. Some great publibity I think.

With this great Soccer tournament going on PAH Accounting will be flying the flag for England and cheering our boys on. I better not go into my opinion on our chances apart from to say I am hoping this will be the time!

Come on England!!!

And should England not bring the trophy then good luck to all teams in it. We should remember how important this is to bringing Africa into such a major event.

For many people getting involved in a business venture with others they know and trust is all about planning what they will do to make their business successful. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Alistair Darling, announced his proposals to help small businesses in his pre-Budget report on Wednesday 9th December.

There is to be a committment of £500m for a capital growth fund. This will be used to support small businesses and is an extension to the Enterprise Finance Guarantee scheme.

A tax aid for small companies was given by further delaying the 1% increase in corporation tax for profits under £300k. The rate will therefore remain at 21% until at least April 2011.

It has been been a great week this week. I have been at the Business Startup Exhibition at London Olympia with the team from Bizpro. They are a virtual assistant business run by Managing Director Kerry-Anne Orr. She asked me to go along and help to promote their business. Alistair Darling , Chancellor of the Exchequer has announced that he will present his Pre-Budget Report at 12.30pm on Wednesday 9th December.

The Pre-Budget Report is becoming a more significant event in the political calendar; with a general election just around the corner, this year’s statement will be of particular interest. Look out for announcements regarding VAT.

Mr Darling is also expected to outline his plans to aid economic recovery, as well as providing details on how he intends to reduce public debt.

The self-assessment filing deadline for paper returns 2008/09 is 31 October 2009. If you file a paper return after this date you will be issued a £100 penalty.

HM Revenue and Customs have indicated that if you tried to file online and failed due to some fault in the online filing process, a paper copy can still be sent after the 31 October; however, you must enclose a copy of the online filing error. HMRC will only cancel the £100 penalty where appropriate evidence is shown. In our experience this is often difficult to prove as the online system is becoming almost faultless.

As of 1 October 2009 the new national minimum wage has increase. The new rates are

• £5.80 per hour to workers aged 22 and above
• £4.83 per hour to workers aged 18 to 21
• £3.57 per hour to workers aged below 18 who are no longer of compulsory school age

It is also now  illegal to include tips as part of the standard minimum wage.

If you are an employer you must ensure that you adjust your employees wages to these new rates. If you are an employee check with your employer to ensure that you are receiving the right hourly amount.
